GOING BACK TO SUNDAE SCHOOL

The last time we featured Sundae School on AACE was over two years ago, and so much has happened (understatement), Sundae School has gone from Barney’s storefront window to dispensary shelves with their new Pre-rolls and soon to be launched Asian themed gummies! The Korean new year known as Seollal starts this February 12th and is celebrated for three days. Traditionally, this is celebrated with Tteokguk, a soup with thin rice cakes, and this year we can add Sundae School’s newest addition to their cannabis product line with mochi gummy flavors that will excite us Asians because it’s flavored with our flavors that reflect our diverse cultures. Who doesn’t love lychee, milktea, and sour yuzu? Even your Grandmother will be thrilled!

This interview with Mia Park of Sundae School is a part of the series to celebrate Chinese New Year’s with other notables Christine Boedihardjo, Jessica Sharp, Felicity Chen of Potli and Natalie Watters, AACE is honored to have these strong, inspirational, and mind-changing APIs all together here on AACE. - Ophelia Chong

It’s been two years since we featured you on AACE, when we first spoke you were just entering Barney’s with your new collection of “smoke wear”, now we are about to see your next launch of edibles after the launch of your dog walkers in 2019. What was the biggest hurdle to launching a cannabis product brand?

Speaking of hurdles, I'm sure as you know, the cannabis industry is no joke. My guess is that we are not the first to tell you that launching a new product in the canna space seems to have challenges in every step of its birth. Yet the most lingering challenge for us has been fighting against the prevalent stigma and a systemic lack of diversity in this field. We often feel, as a team of immigrants, that despite the relatively modern nativity of this industry, the cannabis industry still lacks a great deal of diversity and conversations around inclusion. And on the other side, we also face the cold wall of prejudice from our Asian American community against the Devil's Lettuce so we feel squeezed in between those two thick walls! But we are here to topple both walls down and we absolutely have enjoyed every step of this ride so far!

WE love the flavors you are offering for the gummies, will there ever be a durian flavor? Or Wasabi? How did you choose the flavors you are debuting this Year of the Ox?

Like the Ox who symbolizes diligence and perseverance, we have meticulously worked on our Mochi Gummy flavors for the past two years, inspired by the candies and food we grew up with. East (Asian flavors) meeting West (California cannabis)! We aspire that not only the folks who are familiar with these flavors like us would enjoy, but also the people who have not yet had the opportunity to try these tradition-enriched flavor profiles would appreciate them.

What is your favorite strain for creativity?

Sundae Driver ;)

It’s 2022, where do you see Sundae School? And will there be a “gummy” pocket in the next hoodie?

Yes, what do you think of having them in our masks so you can use your tongue to sneak out?

(AACE screams YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!)
